Ex-NEWS Uchi Hiroki returns with a leading role in a drama

The ex-member of "NEWS" and "Kanjani8", Uchi Hiroki (21) was in a press meeting for Fuji-tv's drama "Isshun no kaze ni nare" (Become the momentary wind) (4 nights in a row starting Feb. 25th, 11pm-) and announced that he will be making his first TV appearance in about 2.5 years. In 05 when he was still underage, he was suspended because of an underage-drinking incident, and last year he came out of his suspension in Shonentai's stage play "PLAYZONE," but this is the first time he has directly spoken with the press. He swore a new beginning saying "I want to work hard so that I don't let anyone down."

After the drinking incident in July 05 when he left the Fuji-tv drama "Gambatte ikimasshoi," this is his first drama. In front of about 100 media people, Uchi nervously apologized saying "I'm very sorry that I caused a lot of trouble. I'd like to regain trust little by little."

Last year he started working in the entertainment world again through his Johnny's sempai, Shonentai's musical "PLAYZONE." In the second act which was based off of a true story, he "apologized" to the fans about the drinking incident, but this was the first time he spoke to the press.

He reflects that during his suspension he "thought hundreds of times that I'd quit. I thought it'd make it easier." However "NEWS" and "Kanjani8" members encouraged him. In contrary to the situation, their bonds seem to have strengthened, "They are such precious friends it makes me want to cry. I never want to lose them." Fanletters also gave him courage, and he worked hard on his lessons thinking "Even if there's only one person waiting for me." At the end of 06 he started over as a trainee. With the support of Shonentai who recognized his diligence in "PLAYZONE," the company had just started to consider his full return when the offer was made.

"[The suspension] for me will help me later. I think I've gotten stronger." His Kansai-originating cheery personality is still there. "10 minutes before the press conference it (nervousness) suddenly came. My sweat was weird," is what he says, but for the photo session he seemed to be relaxed and answered with a smile when asked to make a pose. "I'm an open kid, so I wanted to communicate my feelings," he eventually found his own pace during the meeting.

With the drama as the trigger, he graduates trainee status with Kusano Hironori (19) who also left NEWS because of a drinking incident. About the future, Uchi says "I want to sing... but I can't tell the future. For now I just want to work hard on what's right ahead of me," but at this point returning to his group is a clean slate. He will continue his solo activities.

that all.. jya ne...^^
